Choosing the right keywords, get traffic, and make money

What makes an effective website? What does a website need to be to give you the best return on your investment (ROI)?

In a nutshell the following are a good start:

  1. Get your pages listed for your keywords on the first page of all the major search engines
  2. Get your target audience (not everyone or anyone) to click on your listing (instead of the other 9 listings on the first page)
  3. Good website design. When your target audience gets to your website you do not want people to be repulsed and leave.
  4. Then, most importantly, once you get a searcher to your site, do they find what they were looking for? Your content must be informative and compelling and there must be a clear purpose and a clear offer.
  5. What value does your website add to monetize the traffic?
See without all five items you are missing the point of the internet. For example, there are many 'black hat' SEOs that get plenty of prospect or traffic to your site, but then experience a 95% or higher “bounce rate”. Bounce rate is an action that people take when they get to your website. When they arrive and do not find what they are looking for, they click away from you site (bounce away), go back to the search engine’s results page (SERP ) which is usually page one and click on one of the other nine on that page. What did you accomplish with your high page rank? So what if they get there and “bounce” away. All your efforts are lost in the big picture. People type in all sorts of different words or “keywords” and key phrases when they search for your products or services online. They type in all sorts of stuff.
